PDP's agenda is to change J&K situation for better: Mehbooba
SRINAGAR, FEB 19: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today asserted that the agenda of the ruling People's Democratic Party was to change the situation of the State for better. "My party has time and again displayed that it would rise to the occasion for the welfare of the people and won't shy away from even taking tough decisions for the betterment of the State," Ms Mufti said while addressing a rally at Budgam.........................

26 army men, 22 militants killed in first 2 months of 2017 in Kashmir
SRINAGAR, FEB 19: The army has lost 26 soldiers in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir in the first two months of 2017, while the security forces have stepped up the heat against militants, killing 22 ultras in 50 days, the highest since 2010. While 20 army personnel including an officer lost their lives in avalanches in the valley, six soldiers were killed during counter-insurgency operations across the state that led to the killing of 22 militants as well, security officials said here................

JAMMU, FEB 19: Union Minister Jitendra Singh today attacked the Congress for being "politically bankrupt" and speaking the language of Kashmiri separatists. "On Congress reaction to Gen Rawat's statement, we have already cleared our stand. Some newspapers have carried it. DELHI, FEB 19: In a stern statement, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday that India will not fire first, but if the bullet is fired from Pakistan's side then India will not count its bullet. "India has conveyed to the world that it is a strong country and the forces that disturb her peace will not be spared," Singh added. 10 year jail term to Dar for being LeT member
NEW DELHI, FEB 19: Tariq Ahmed Dar was not as lucky as two other co-accused, who were acquitted in the 2005 Delhi serial blasts case, as a Court here awarded him 10 years in jail for being a member of LeT despite absolving him of the key charge of conspiring to trigger the bombings. Additional Sessions Judge, Reetesh Singh acquitted Dar of the charges of conspiracy to wage a war against the government by carrying out the blasts...............

 

61.16 percent turnout in phase 3 of UP Assembly polls
LUCKNOW/ NEW DELHI, FEB 19: A 61.16 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the third phase of the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh polls which concluded by and large peacefully. As many as 69 Assembly constituencies in the Yadav heartland, considered crucial for the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state, went to the polls in this phase. "Turnout of voters was 61.16 per cent when polling drew to a close at 5pm," UP chief electoral officer T Venkatesh said....................
