Omar hits out at Centre over increase in number of pellet guns
Srinagar, Mar 2: Hitting out at the Centre over reports that the number of pellet guns being used during crowd control in Kashmir valley will go up in the coming months, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said so much for the assurance that pellet guns would be used in "rarest of rare cases". Jammu, Mar 2: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dr S P Vaid today said that transparency in daily working is must to enhance basic amenities of the personnel. "Transparency and quality in our daily working needs to be discussed at different levels to enhance basic amenities for the personnel," Dr Vaid said while chairing a meeting here this afternoon. Driver, helper among 3 killed across J&K

Jammu, Mar 2: A driver and his helper died when their truck collided head on with a trolley on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district. A truck on way towards Srinagar at midnight collided head on with a trolley near Sherbibi Nachalana in Banihal area of Ramvan, police here today said. They said that truck driver identified as Abdul Gani Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Kreeri Nopora, Dooru and helper Mudassir Ahmed Rather.....................

 

Intermittent snow continues on upper reaches; rain lashes plains 

Srinagar, Mar 2: Upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, continued to receive intermittent snowfall while rain lashed plains for the second successive day today, resulting in dip in the minimum and maximum temperatures. Indo-Pak talks on Indus Water Treaty likely this month
New Delhi, Mar 2: India and Pakistan are expected to hold parleys on various aspects of the Indus Water Treaty in Islamabad later this month, nearly six months after New Delhi decided to suspend talks on the pact in view of the terror strikes by Pakistan-based groups. The meeting of the Permanent Indus Commi-ssion will be held before March 31 "as it is mandated" under the treaty, government sources said......................

Full-body truck scanners by year-end
New Delhi, Mar 2: After a delay of seven years, the Centre has finally decided to install full-body truck scanners at cross-LoC trading points in Jammu and Kashmir which are expected to become operational by the end of this year. The Union Home Ministry's move comes a day after security forces recovered arms and ammunitions hidden in a camouflage cavity of a truck, plying between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir................
